Plant Swap
Bring a plant to swap, and get a cool gift!
In fitting to the theme of Garden of Eden, the main deal will be a Plant Swap! Bring a plant, take a plant! Maybe you have something at home that needs a better spot and you don't have one. Maybe you have extra plants. Maybe you stopped by Nick's Garden Center just west of me at Chambers and Iliff and grabbed a plant on the way to the party. Whatever the case, if you bring a plant, you can take a plant. I'll have a special table set up with plants on it - plesae don't take my regular house plants, only take plants from the table. Honor system. If it looks like there are extra plants, 'cause some of you brought a bunch of extra or something, anyone can take one.
Story writing and Story telling
Write a story about Nahesa before (or at?) the party and get a cool gift!
Sometime around dinnertime, I'll open the mic to some good ol' fashioned Hawai'ian storytelling. I have no idea how this usually goes, I'm just making it up on the fly. Just like I made up the Legend of Nahesa - the Snake Spirit Demigodess of Hawai'i. Yes, I know, Hawai'i has no snakes, and certainly no snake goddess named Nahesa. But it's the Year of the Snake, and I'm prone to indulge my own silliness. Check out The Legend of Nahesa Page for more info!
Pot Luck Lu'au
Bring food, drinks, or ice!
I don't think I'll be able to get catering this year, so I invite everyone to bring some Lu'au food -- something polynesian, preferably, but really anything will do. I have some catering trays (double-walled aluminum for heating or icing), and will set them up under a canopy. I may make some of my Dragon-famous Hawai'ian Macaroni Salad, but I won't really have "mains" to choose from, most likely. I tend to get busy around party time and don't have spare hours to cook.
Forbidden Mead/Beer and Other Forbidden Drinks
I'll have some manner of Forbidden Beer or Mead in the kegerator. Not sure what yet, it'll be a surprise. Just like that darn snake in the grass.
Please feel free to bring some snakey soda or slithery slushy or testy tea ... or really any other sort of drink you'd like to share. I'll have fridge and cooler space for ya! If you can't bring drinks, bring ice. Can always use ice.
SWAG? Something SNaKeY
No special plans for CUSTOM swag this year, I think, but there will be plants (see Plant Swap above), and I'll have something else you can take home to commemorate the Year of the Snake.
